Things were going fairly smoothly once mom returned from the Nursing and Therapy Center. Part of mom's discharge was to continue home therapy (physical, occupational & speech), shower assistance and nursing monitoring via Medicare as ordered by the doctors. Medicare items will continue for 60 days and then they will reassess future need at that time.
Dad and I had restarted the program with Dakota County to get PCA time, meals and other services started again. The social worker has contacted agencies to try to find someone to come in for PCA time and start some meal deliveries coming.
So the wheels were in motion, until.... we returned home to the condo after my mom's doctor appointment this past Thursday August 18th. Before leaving for the appointment, my dad had let the association in with a plumber who was doing some work to fix an outdoor faucet on the building. My parents left for the appointment while the plumber continued work. Unfortunately the plumber made a mistake and we are assuming turned the water on his way out but didn't check his work. We had full on running water flooding the condo for a few hours. There is damage in the Livingroom, bathroom, master bedroom, hallway and guest room.
We got a water damage company in right away Thursday night, they pulled carpet up, removed all the wet carpet padding, removed a small patch of dry wall, base boards, flooring in the bathroom, flooring in the hallway laundry/water softener closet and master carpet had to be removed completely. Fans, dehumidifiers and anti-mold treatments were applied throughout the weekend. So mom and dad had to stay in a hotel Thursday - Monday night and are just moving back in today (Monday August 23rd). Now we have to start the search for a company to come in and take care of repairs. I guess the good news there is that we will have new carpet in the bathroom and bedroom. But there are a few undesirable trip hazards here until that can be completed. The other good news is the plumber has acknowledged fault and so far is planning to pay for all repairs. We will see how things sort out as we go.
Anyway, we are working to get back to 'normal' again. My mom has really made good progress regaining function of her left arm and is able to move around on her own with her walker again. She is still affected with a few things like bladder control, but we are told this can happen to some after a stroke so time will tell on that front.
