Barb’s Story

Site created on May 1, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Hello Family & Friends-

Deb & I are setting up this site as a means to keep you informed about the recent changes in our Mom's health.
Mom recently had a fall and was transported by ambulance to Aurora Hospital in Oconomowoc. Due to compromised breathing she was intubated for several days until she began responding. Upon extubation and after further observation we began to realize that there were some severe issues with her mental state. Mom was transported to Watertown Behavioral Unit for Inpatient care. After speaking with the nurses and the lead Physician it has been determined that she is suffering from dementia. We now realize that recent events and happenings were signs of this worsening.

At this time we are asking that you use this as a means of keeping up with things. We have SO much going on between Mom & Dad's health and this new reality and we just don't have time to personally respond to every call or message.

If you perhaps would receive a phone call from Mom please keep in mind that the things she may say are not rooted in reality. Recent conversations have had her being held by people she doesn't know, being at a resort (I like this one!), being at home in the living room with Dad, etc. The best way to respond is not to try to correct her or change her mind about her state of being. That is her reality right now. Kindness and love and really just agreeing and telling her everything is ok and that she is being well taken care of is the best. We are learning new things all the time & will continue to do so as we begin this journey with Mom. Please know that we are doing our best to get her the care that is needed. The hope is that we can get her to a place where she can be moved to Marquardt and continue to be cared for there.

Any changes will be posted here so, again, please let us have this time to figure this all out.

Prayers are BIG & we know there are miracles every day so keep sending those up to the Big Guy!

With much Love-

KT & Deb

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the love, hugs, cards & care following our Mom's passing. We are grateful for the peace it all has brought us.
We were able to make a nice donation to St. Paul's Church. We will also be making a donation to the employees of Oconomowoc Transport, a place where Mom spent many years driving for and loving the special needs children on her route.
Blessings to all.
