Barb’s Story

Site created on January 9, 2019

Reflecting on the last couple of whirlwind weeks, tonight. Many of you may know by now, but my mom, Barbara Mager has been receiving treatments for cancer for the last year. She has been such a trooper and strong person since my dad’s death last year and also finding out she has cancer, herself. She has tried to keep herself active and busy, while grieving and receiving grueling treatments, all at the same time. She always has a positive attitude, no matter what. My mom thought she was in the clear, but her cancer has come back very aggressively. Since Christmas, she has been in such physical pain that even walking has become difficult. Last Monday, my mom had another round of chemo that was very hard on her body. She is currently hospitalized at North Memorial, and is regaining some strength after all she has been through. We are unsure of how long she will be in the hospital and what the plan will be from there. A lot to be determined this week. My mom is the last person to want you to feel “sorry” for her, but I do think she could really use encouragement and would love to hear from her friends and family, now and in the coming days. She says even the minutes are long, while in the hospital. She is so used to being “busy” all the time, that this is all so life changing. She would love texts, FB messages, phone calls, cards and eventually visits. I will update more when I know more!

Visitation for my mom will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, Feb. 1 at Zaharia Funeral Home in Truman. Funeral service will be at 10 am on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. The weather next week looks brutal, so we are hoping later next week will be a bit better.
