Welcome to Barbara ’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportWe've enjoyed an unusually warm winter here in the Midwest and with it an early-ish start to spring. Mom's living in her assisted living community and also enjoying frequent trips to her nearby home to plan for the spring cleaning in the yard and root through old family photos. If she brings up a memory you've long forgotten in a call or a letter, don't be surprised! She has an excellent memory for family history and good times with loved ones.
With her oncologist, she made the decision at the end of 2023 not to resume chemotherapy for Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), which started a palliative care journey that continues to this day. She's feeling fine and will tell anyone who asks that she's "the healthiest sick person you will meet". This time of relative good health is precious and she's enjoying visits, phone calls, letters, emails, and cards from dear friends and family. And low-key acts of service like rearranging the bookshelves "to promote better authors" to other residents at the assisted living place.
It's a good time to reach out. Please send a card or letter. Make a phone call. Don't wait to get in touch. If you need her contact information one of us (her daughters) can share the info.
