After losing Charles, her beloved husband of 62 years shortly after losing her home of 46 years in Boone, Barbara McDaniel now lives at an Assisted Living Facility in Hickory – sadly away from everyday support of her Friends & her Church in Boone.
Right now BARBARA IS IN NEED of more visits, calls and extra support and connection. PLEASE VISIT HER IN PERSON in Room 28 at Brookdale Hickory Northeast, 2530 16th St NE Hickory, NC 28601.
BARBARA NEEDS to have 1-2 VISITORS PER WEEK right now. Also, PLEASE CALL HER at 828-324-0435 to brighten her day as well as yours. Remember what a sweet, loving soul she is!
Barbara been holding up well health-wise and she is usually in good spirits, but she is still facing giant adjustment challenges (and her dementia is progressing, eroding short-term memory)
Jeanie McDaniel Hollar, her eldest daughter, lives in Hickory nearby and has been her main visitor and in-person supporter. Recently JEANIE was diagnosed with EARLY STAGE BREAST CANCER and is now receiving radiation treatments. Praise God they caught it early on!
However, in order to focus on her own healing process, Jeanie must now step back from visiting Barbara so much for awhile.
BARBARA NEEDS MORE VISITORS TO HELP JEANIE step back, rest up and heal. Barbara would just love seeing you in person again!

Sharon and Robert, her other children, live in California and support her by phone from afar. Robert is visiting the first week of August, and Sharon is visiting sometime this Fall.
But there’s no substitute for Barbara’s beloved friends in Boone – including her fellow retired Parkway School teachers and the Christian Fellowship of Perkinsville Baptist Church. It would be great to have 1-2 visitor per week if possible -- especially over the next few months.
