Barbara’s Story

Site created on November 10, 2023

Barbara has been caring for her mother since the spring. Her mother was recently staying at Barbara’s sister Kathy Mitchell’s house in Watkinsville. Barbara for several days was staying at Kathy’s house helping care for her mother.

Barbara became very ill on Monday November 6 and was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital

She has an infection in her brain and each day it seems the diagnosis changes whether the infection is viral or bacterial They have found evidence of bacterial infection They also have evidence of white blood cells that are of the type that fight viral infection It has also been described as a “nasty” infection ( hope that is not too technical ) I believe likely she has both viral and bacterial infections. She is very sick

Her mother Leila “Susan” Pethel passed after Barbara was taken to the hospital Susan was a very special lady who led so many people to Christ. Her obituary is at the website for Memorial Park Funeral Home in Flowery Branch GA

Barbara got a more complete diagnosis today and a treatment plan.

Barbara has two types of Lyme Disease.   One she contracted very recently and the other is more long term.  The better news is that both are curable and the doctor said she would be restored to the person she was before all of this!

A treatment plan is beginning immediately and of course this will take time.

Barbara has a major seizure on November 6 at her sister Kathy’s home and was hospitalized in a medically induced coma for about a month.   About 10 days before that she went on a beach trip with her band mom friends.   On the last night at the beach she got a fever.  She came home and went to bed for a few days to lower the fever.  The doctor believes that the second strain of Lyme came from a sand flea bite on that beach trip.  Her body in its weakened state could not fight the infection.

All praises to Jesus for this!!   Thank you for continuing to pray.    We asked for total healing.   He is providing total healing!
