Newest Update

Journal entry by Angie, Tippa, Jana Hickman

Update on my dear, sweet Nana:

Thank you all for the calls, texts, and prayers to my aunt, my mom, and I. My Nana has had a very rough few days but it looks like she may be finally making the turn around. Her worst symptom of pain has been mouth sores from a chemo push drug she had 2 rounds of, post-transplant, and she has been heavily sedated from the pain and will not have much recollection of these past few days. However, the sores are finally starting to heal and she is slowly being weaned off of pain medication so she is having many more lucid moments and coming around to being our Nana again. The doctors have confirmed the engraftment from the transplant went very well, and her white blood count is rising beautifully like it should, but because of her heavy state of sedation and only being able to lay but never truly get comfortable, she has developed pneumonia in both lungs. While this is terrifying for her to receive an infection on top of a depleted system, they are hopeful they can knock it out with antibiotics. The goal now is to have her much more alert to be able to do some walking and deep breathing to stabilize her oxygen levels and keep it above 90 without being hooked up to oxygen. We knew this would be rough, but never dreamed it would be this bad. It has been extremely tough to watch her go through, but she is a fighter and has decided she is not giving up this fight. She knows who holds her future and we all are having to live out our faith in Him every step of this journey. On behalf of her and the rest of my family, THANK YOU for all of the calls, texts, words of encouragement, cards sent, and most of all, prayers. We are nowhere near finished with this fight, but as long as there is breath in her lungs and God seated on the throne, there is HOPE. Keep the prayers coming! We, especially my aunt, are not able to answer them all but will update here as we have updates! We love you all.
