Barb’s Story

Site created on January 27, 2024

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Barb has been experiencing pain since October of 2023 and decided to get it checked out in December of 2023. She had a CT scan in Rapid City, SD and was told she needed another scan that day. After the second scan they confirmed there was a mass in her mid section and it had taken over the gallbladder, entered the liver, small and large intestine. And it was very close to the stomach. They advised her to check into the ER in Rapid and she stayed the night in Rapid City. The next day Jon drove her to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. After a long night and half of the day the following day in the ER they were admitted into the hospital and they took a CT scan and eventually did an MRI. They concluded that it was stage 4 gall bladder cancer and it was growing rapidly. They met with the surgeon and found out that the cancer was inoperable. They informed Jon and Barb that it was possible she may only have 3-6 months left to live.

During this time waiting for the tests to come back they stayed in Minnesota at a dear friends house. They had their own apartment downstairs and even had a chairlift on the stairs to help Barb up when she felt like visiting. After about 2 weeks in Minnesota they were able to travel back to Wyoming. Barb and Jon were hoping to spend time with the kids, Emma, Lydia, Jonathan and Isaiah. We all had a late Christmas and enjoyed that time together.

When Barb got home from MN she started taking Compound X which has helped many with Cancer. This did not cure the cancer but we believe that it did help slow it down.
About a month after getting home Barb had another CT scan to see the progress. This CT scan showed that the cancer had grown double the thickness and 2 inches in diameter.

During this time Jon heard about a place in Arizona called Envita. This medical center provides care for cancer patients and delivers the chemo directly to the cancer instead of filling the whole body with it. They offer immunotherapy along with the cancer and provide personalized care depending on your condition and how the treatment affects the person. Normal chemo only provides 10-15% of the chemo to the cancer, and this direct chemo provides 95-100% of chemo to the cancer. We are very hopeful they can help Barb and are very glad that the side effects are very minimal with this form of chemo. We appreciate prayer and are encouraged and glad to walk in faithfulness to our Savior, Jesus Christ. It isn’t always easy but the Lord doesn’t promise us that, He promises He will be with us and that He will sanctify us through our suffering. Praise the Lord!

THANKFUL HEARTS

Our family has thankful hearts today!  Thankful to our community, thankful to our church, thankful to friends, and thankful to our Lord. We have felt so supported and loved and helped during this time by all of you. We look forward to reading your stories and cards. We are so grateful for your gifts and support of our family. And thank you for worshiping with us and hanging around to talk with us. Our family left the church building last night after 9 P.M. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to serve food and clean up everything afterwards. We were able to just talk and visit the day away and the Lord provided strength for everyone of us. I pray the Lord gives traveling safety to everyone returning to their homes today.

Now on this Sunday morning, we get to go worship with our church family! We pray that you all have a day that is blessed richly by the Lord, and that you feel his steadfast, love surrounding you, comforting, you, and calling you to holiness as you seek him to help you strengthen you and uphold you.

Colossians 3:16 let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
