Journal entry by Lydia Yang —
It is hard to believe that it has been three months since the last update in September, and a lot of things have changed. The majority of my current effort was working toward the boring normalcy, and along the way I scored some “major” achievements, like making myself a cup of coffee, and washing my own dishes, and so on. One important milestone, however, was that I started to drive about two months ago. I feel fine and safe enough to drive. I am sure if you ask other drivers on the road they may feel differently. I guess that will be another story. Being able to drive is a huge step towards being independent.
While we’ve all faced unprecedented challenges this year that we never imagined, this time has underscored the importance of friendships and family, of humanity and kindness and of strength and resilience. It seems that my struggle may be more public than most people, I do sincerely believe that in this trying year everybody has a heroic story to tell, and at this occasion I would like to wish, from the bottom of my heart, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! and a much better and prosperous 2021!
