Evening Everyone!

Ivy has been struggling with swelling/retaining water, urinating, passing bowl movements, and a fluctuating fever.

We had to do a straight catheter, which is a quick insertion of a catheter to empty her bladder. It doesn't/didn't stay in. We then ended up having to switch her to IV diuretics, as the oral versions weren't strong enough to keep her peeing. Hopefully that will change in the coming days.

Ivy has been given oral stool softener, suppositories, and Miralax to attempt getting those bowls moving. None have done the trick, yet. If she does not pass a normal size stool by tomorrow morning, she will get an enema.

She has had a fluctuating fever since she got to her room post op. The first temp that was taken read 99 degrees. The most recent, taken at about 1800, was 102 degrees. She has Tylenol on board and will be receiving a dose of ibuprofen as well. Her fever is more than likely caused by some blood getting into the dura (the space around the spinal cord where the spinal fluid is). Though we were not informed  that this was a possibility, according to her Neuro team it is common with this procedure.

This mama is frustrated with the neuro team, as we weren't given any information about what her post op stay would look like, what the risks were or what to expect as far as things such as this fever. It wasn't until after she was out of surgery that someone, who wasn't on the team, explain some of the things that come with the healing from this procedure.

Ivy is strong and will pull through this, as she pulls through everything else she has been through!
