Josette’s Story

Site created on February 3, 2015

Josette is a sweet, loving, brave little girl. She loves riding her tricycle, catching frogs, playing with her friends, making flower crowns, wearing dresses, and foraging for honeysuckles and mulberries. She was diagnosed with fetal heart block before she was born, has had three heart surgeries and three pacemakers, and is now waiting for a new heart.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Stacy & Brendan Roisin

I just realized how long it’s been since I’ve updated this site. Josette is overall doing well. We’ve managed to stay healthy so far this cold and flu season, and hopefully we will continue to so we don’t end up back on the hospital.

We’ve spent most of our time just hanging out in our apartment with occasional outings to the playground, but Josette is now cleared to go in public places, so we’ve been able to get her out more recently. This means that she’s able to go to Mass again, so we can all go as a family, which has been so nice and something I had been missing over the last 8 months. Our first time back to Mass was two Sundays ago, which happened to be the feast of St. Jose, and we went out to brunch after to celebrate. It was normal, and it was wonderful.

Josette has had no more signs of rejection, and her new heart is doing pretty well. Some of her pressures are still slightly high, but not overly concerning at this point. She also had/has an issue with her white blood cell count being too low (a side effect of at least four of the medicines she’s on). It was getting lower and lower, but they adjusted some of her meds, and at her last appointment it was headed back up. Hopefully that trend will continue until she gets back to a normal range. She has another biopsy and cath this morning. Depending on how this one goes, we may be able to head home in the near-ish future, so prayers are appreciated, as always.
