Ava’s Story

Site created on January 21, 2022

The events leading up to Ava’s diagnosis started with Ava limping from time to time mid-to-late last week. On Sunday, January 16, when she woke up she was unable to walk on the right foot. We weren’t certain as to the cause for her symptoms because to our knowledge she had not injured the ankle or foot. Later that evening she spiked a temp which prompted me to schedule her a doctors appointment for Monday. We were optimistic that Ava’s symptoms may have been the result of a viral infection that had settled in her right ankle, which is somewhat common in littles, unfortunately, her bloodwork showed the potential for other concerning causes.  SLCH was contacted Monday evening regarding her labs and requested she be seen in their clinic here at SLCH the following morning for further workup.  Ava’s official diagnosis was confirmed on Wednesday, 1/19/2022, as Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
