OBITUARY FOR AVA SILVERS

On March 24th (3 Nisan 5783), Ava Silvers, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away much too early in life at the age of 64 after succumbing to a diagnosis of PPA (Primary Progressive Aphasia) an FTD (Frontotemporal Degeneration/Dementia), seven plus years earlier.  In her short years Ava met (on an Israel trip in 1975) and subsequently married (in 1984) her bashert (soulmate), Bob (Bobby, as she called him). Admittedly, they both fell in love “at first sight.”  Their love story included two children, Jason and Jenna, and a varied career including being the dietician for the Bonaventure Resort & Spa, directing and managing a Meals on Wheels program for the Jewish Community Center of Chicago, and culminating in a long career as a preschool teacher at Congregation B’nai Israel where her husband served as rabbi.

Ava was tremendously proud of her Sephardic heritage and was an extraordinary cook and baker of Sephardic cuisine that she enjoyed sharing with others.  She was a loving and caring friend willing to go to any lengths to help others.  She was fiercely protective of her family and those she loved.  She never considered herself any better than any other person, and was not too proud to undertake any kind of work that helped to benefit others.  Ava was an active, strong-willed, and determined individual who lived life joyfully and fully, and always with a contagious smile on her face.  It was these same qualities that helped in her living with PPA these past seven plus years.

In addition to her husband and children, Ava is survived by her siblings Judy Kraner, Marc Elias, and Ralph Elias, and will be sadly missed by all the people and students whose lives she touched.

Funeral services for Ava Silvers will take place on Monday, March 27th at 1:00 pm at Congregation B’nai Israel, 2200 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL  33431.  Burial will follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 State Road 7, Boynton Beach, FL 33473.

Funeral service at Congregation B’nai Israel will be live-streamed, which can be accessed at: www.cbiboca.org  (Just click on the tab labeled “live-stream” in the top right-hand corner of the home page.)

Shiva will take place Monday (3/27), Tuesday (3/28), Wednesday (3/29), Thursday (3/30), and Friday (3/31) from 4:30 to 7:00 pm at Congregation B’nai Israel.  Minyan services will be at 6:30 pm each day except for Friday, where the family will be joining the synagogue service at 8:00 pm.
