Avalynn Skye’s Story

Site created on March 5, 2023

Thank you for the outpouring of love and support around Avalynn Skye’s recent diagnosis of Leukemia. We have started this blog to try to streamline information for updates on what is be a long journey to recovery. Thank you to Skye’s (Avie’s) friends for being such amazing beacons of light during this process so far. You have no idea what your love and support does to boost her spirits as she navigates these new roads.

Journal entry by Jennifer Doane Bensch

6 months in remission and it feels so good! 😀 🙏 😍
Avie Skye is doing well and we see the light in her eyes starting to shine so bright!
She is starting to get some muscle strength back.
She was able to have her port removed. This is a big step forward in her being able to do more in the future and drastically reduces her risk of sepsis.
We have been enjoying the ability to not be so tethered to so many doctor visits and the hospital.
Over all, her spirits are vastly improving and she is so happy to get to see her friends more now that her immune system is starting to function better.
Avie Skye has a full battery of 9 month testing in May, and then again in August, when she also has a full systems check to manage anything health wise, that treatment caused and to continue to be sure her stem cells are functioning well. Think testing for bone marrow, mitogen, echo, pulmonary function, hormones of all kinds, chimerism, NGS, T cell development, and the list goes on.
While we are celebrating all the good, we aren't out of the woods just yet and your continued love, energy and prayers are welcomed and still needed!
Our journey has been one of strength, love and resilience and each of you in your own ways have helped to carry us when we needed it most. We are so very happy to be where we are and feel we are living a true life miracle. This wouldn't be possible without all your love and support.
