Austin’s Story

Site created on May 25, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Austin was diagnosed with a rare type of brain tumor (non-cancerous) in March 2021. Although the tumor is non-cancerous, due to the specifics and risks he will require surgery to avoid more serious short and long term complications. The good news is, because Austin is young and healthy the doctors are optimistic for a successful and relatively fast recovery. The doctors have indicated the post-op recovery and rehabilitation to be 6 to 8 weeks with longer term recovery for another few months. We are extremely fortunate to be in excellent hands with some of the best doctors in the world specializing in this specific type of brain tumor.

We are reaching out to our friends and family for help as our family navigates this unexpected life event.

Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Rebecca Teames

It’s been a while since we updated so this is long overdue. After a couple of uncomfortable weeks and resting as much as possible, the shingles went away and Austin was able to get back to healing. He’s going to PT every week and doing his exercises daily.

While it does seem he lost some ground during the shingles, things are slowly getting back on track. He has some lingering dizziness and balance issues, which were expected. It’s going to just take time to see if/how much those are corrected through therapy.

Some priorities right now are building his stamina for screen time so he can get back to work. Otherwise he’s able to do a lot more of his normal activities.  He’s driving and in general feeling pretty good. He’s even taking Simon down to his tournament in Valencia this weekend! I’m on backup and will fly down 5 if anything happens, but everything should be just fine.
