Newest Update

Journal entry by Brandi&Tara KEYS

Greetings Village!

Sorry to have such a gap in posts but here's a big ol' update for everyone!

One request before I get on with the post - HOUSING IN/NEAR BILLINGS. His treatments will require 4 days a week, hospital visits and those will start next week.  As you know, we were RVing it when we got the diagnosis and we don't want him healing up in that environment. We will need our Village to help us if at all possible 🙏 🏡

Since the last post, Austin, has had some pretty important visitors that really lit him up like a Christmas Tree! We had his Gma Cindy, Papa Don and Auntie Ryleigh come through and they put a huge smile on his face. They helped make sure he was fed well by going to Benihana, delivering cheesesteaks AND got him properly geared up for football season with his Deebo jersey and a special delivery, a Mahommes jersey from his Auntie Jess and her family 🏈

After they left we got his Uncle Jake and Aunt Whitney! That boy was in heaven getting homemade bone broth that his Auntie made from scratch for him and playing endless hours of Madden with his Uncle. They also got to take him to a meal on the town because his numbers were good. His Uncle is still playing Madden online with him nightly, THANK YOU, JAKE, HE LOVES IT!

We have been so blessed by our hosts, Lynn and Andy. I can't even begin to thank them enough for the space and grace they have shown us. Lynn and Austin have become pretty good buds; she hears something he likes and she's out the door grabbing it for him. They have fed us really well and played cards to keep everyone entertained. Andy doesn't let us win either, lol. People like them need to be cloned for the betterment of our world🧡  They better be careful, treating us so well, we may not leave 😘 They also have a couple of furbabies that has helped keep us all feeling better as we miss our own SOOO much.

Austin is still handling his treatments like a champ AND he still has his hair!!! He is using the power of his mind and positivity to keep that hair longer than his nurses predicted 😂. It is thinning a little but if he still has his hair at the end of this week, he has proven them wrong🧡 He had his final doses of steroids on Sunday and those have the poor boy SWOLLEN with about 10-15lbs of water weight so he is thankful to be done with that. We should expect to see his insatiable appetite subside a bit now that he's off of those as well. I won't mention too much how they affected his emotions, I will say they were affected 😔 I just think about how adults handle those mood swings and we're counting it as a victory how well he acknowledged and handled those- so mature 🥰 He is absolutely inspirational and impressive...and that's not me being biased, that is the concensus of his medical team too 🧡

Yesterday he had a Lumbar Puncture for chemo and a bone marrow biopsy. These results will let us know when we can transition to Billings for treatments. He is pretty sore and tired from that but if he's feeling better tomorrow, we hope to get him to the Zoo and see some Silver backs! If the results are good, we will be seeing everyone by next week!!!!

On that note, in order to visit Austin when the time comes:
1. You can't have ANY illness symptoms
2. You MUST have a flu shot
3. Depending on environment, you must wear a mask
4. Hand washing and sanitizer before entering his area.

He wants to see and be around his Village so PLEASE go get your flu shots asap!!!

We feel so blessed to have all of you in our corner. We aren't great at asking for help and it is phenomenal how everyone has been stepping up for us. We need you all and your loving help during this crazy shit.

Thank you Village and hope to hug you all soon!

Love,
The KEYS
