Newest Update

Journal entry by Heather Curtis

Aurora is taking steps by herself now when she is wearing her AFO's. She was always needing a hand or finger to help her keep her balance but now she can go short periods without (maybe 20 steps or less). She does get tired and need breaks. Now that she is strong enough to hold her body up she has been upgraded from a wheelchair to a red wagon. She enjoys being chauffeured around the hospital and outside when the weather is nice.

She continues to work with PT/OT with upper and lower strengthening exercises. OT also has her working on using "righty" to help with things. For example if you are playing with blocks and want to take them apart, "righty" can help hold blacks and "lefty" can pull apart. She gets discouraged sometimes because her control of "righty" is not the same as "lefty" but she will get there.

Speech continues to work with her on diet intake and using her words. She loves to sing and sings songs (some made up on her own) and now she is starting to voice what she wants when asks when before she might just start singing about it. As far as diet, that differs daily for her - remember she is 3! One day she likes something, the next day she says its disgusting! She is meeting her fluid intake and what's going in is coming out, so we are good for now.

Many people are asking when will we return home. Our answer is we have no clue! While it can be unsettling not knowing when, the most important thing is that Aurora is in the best place for her now. She is getting all of her needed therapies, she is safe and she continues to progress. As soon as we know something different, we will share.

Thank you again for all of your prayers and support. We know these are uncertain times for everyone and appreciate the positive thoughts you are sending this way.
