Journal entry by Audrey Nowak

Dear Angels,

I've missed you! Tomorrow is a big day - Chemo #5!  I am finally rounding the corner - #5 of six chemos.  After tomorrow only one more!

It used to bother me a bit to hear the word "warrior" in reference to cancer.  I think that comes from my general stance that I am not "fighting" cancer, nor am I "beating" cancer. I am living with cancer.  And one thing I have learned - cancer has a mind all its own.  I was perfectly healthy December 18 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I remained perfectly healthy until January 24, my first day of chemotherapy.  Since then I have been hospitalized twice - once in a life threatening situation.  So no matter how hard I "fight", I really do not have any control.  The best I can do is to be brave, be strong, and take what comes my way with grace, faith and fearlessness.

I can honestly say I could not do this without all of you.  Round 4 was my toughest yet, but I am happy to report I started feeling more like myself this weekend. I will head into Round 5 with a strong spirit and a strong body.  Your prayers, your texts, your random messages and photos have really brightened my days. I'm not sure how to ever thank you.  The power of your impact on my life truly defies words.

My fingers remain incredibly sore, so please continue to pray for this.  It is becoming difficult to write and to type - and I miss playing my violin and my harp.  I can still squeeze out some piano playing without too much pain, and I am grateful for that.

Thank you to those who have bought tickets to the Audrey's Angels Benefit Concert on June 1. Please know your ticket purchase is a direct way to help support me financially as I face so many obstacles and so much financial stress now and in the future.  You can also show your support by purchasing a concert t-shirt.  The front of the t-shirt was designed by my sister Jenny! The t-shirt store will close May 6 so don't delay!

Thank you so much for walking with me through this.  Because of you, I will always be grateful for the lessons cancer has taught me.

All my love,

Audrey
