Newest Update

Journal entry by Joy Hicks

Beth was able to share an update and we wanted to be sure to include it on Caring Bridge.

Aubri had brain scans completed last week. We will meet with her neurologist to go over the results soon.  We did see in her Mychart that Aubri still has a fracture in her left temporal bone but that the left internal carotid injury (neck) has healed! There are signs of brain scarring but that is to be expected after her type of moderate brain injury.

Aubri is expected to start school second semester, after the New Year. The plan was to start with two classes and slowly increase the workload. Aubri is insisting on starting with three classes per day. She will soon graduate from neuro OT AND PT to sport OT AND PT. She will still have speech therapy 2x per week to continue to work on the most difficult cognitive skills.

We are waiting for the ortho hand surgeon visit next week to see if restrictions will be lifted or if surgery will be needed on her left hand.

Aubri has increased her appetite and has gained all but a few pounds back. Her physical and mental endurance is increasing each week. She ran on the treadmill during PT this past week!!! Aubri continues to push and give more than what anyone asks of her. She has also done more than she should. She completed a handstand, a headstand, a cartwheel and a one handed cartwheel. Although we are excited she is leveling up in Acro tricks,  we are hoping she can be patient a little longer and wait for the green light from her neurologist. It’s exciting yet so scary when she sneaks and does tricks. She waits until she is successful before sharing what she has attempted or landed.  Aubri enjoys supporting her teammates and is very determined to be back on the dance floor.

We are so very appreciative of the funds raised at the Jackson family benefit and Kick for a Cause. Your generosity will allow 19 more weeks of therapy to help Aubri reach her full potential rather than cutting therapy off short where insurance draws the line.

God continues to heal and bless us! Please continue to pray for our family. We appreciate all the love and support.
