Atticus’s Story

Site created on June 6, 2018

On Sunday our sweet wild boy suffered a near drowning, he was medi-vaced to Phoenix Childrens Hospital where he remains in critical condition. No part of his brain survived the accident so we ask at this time that we continue to pray for our sweet boy and his strength and serenity but that we also extend those prayers to our family and friends and anyone that had the privilege of knowing this perfect angel. We pray that everyone can hold strong to his memory and help him to live on forever in the good deeds we do for one another.

Journal entry by Robin Krizay

Atticus has continued to take the lead in his journey. He wasn’t satisfied with the limitation of being able to donate tissue only. He began shutting down his brain stem which allowed him to be eligible for organ donation. Atticus was pronounced brain dead on June 10th and Ashley & Travis were able to assist in preparing his gifts for donation by caring for his ‘spaceship’ as the search for donor recipients commenced. The next 72 hours was far from easy. Tests and medical interventions were performed near constantly while they searched to find matches for his gifts. Being the selfless parents that they are it’s not surprising that Travis & Ashley followed their son’s lead and saw him through his gift giving process. They got to sleep with him, bathe him and love on him for a few more days. On Wednesday morning we had the privilege of sending his little spaceship to surgery. We got word that his gifts may save many lives so Atticus’ story continues...his Heart went to a 2 year old male in Washington, his Liver to a 2 year old female in Texas, his Kidneys to a 70 year old female in Arizona and his corneas were able to be used to give the gift of sight.

The love and support from family, friends, the Phoenix and Yuma communities and even strangers is so appreciated. We are humbled and full of gratitude.

Please join us to honor the life of Atticus James Martin Krizay in a Coco-themed celebration with popsicles and tacos, a few of Atticus’ favorites.
