Arne’s Story

Site created on April 30, 2023

Hello friends & family -

For the past two weeks, Arne has been in the care of Sevierville Health And Rehabilitation Center as he deals with stage 4 prostate cancer and hip surgery. The cancer spread into his bones creating a need for a rod to be inserted in his hip. He is going through regular Physical & Occupational Therapy to regain lost strength.

The cancer treatment started with two injections that are time-released to battle it at the point of origin. While we await signs of progress on the treatment, Arne is in good spirits with daily visitors from around Sevier County and beyond. We are thankful for his community from church, rotary, the National Park and so many other areas that dad has been involved.

We will continue to provide updates as we learn more.

Greetings All:

While dad continues to feel good, the March 13th PET scan tells a different story.  It appears the Lupron treatment effectiveness has stalled and dad's cancer has spread to multiple skeletal sites (thoracic and Lumbar, plus multiple ribs and right & left iliac - upper portion of the hip bone).

Dad meets with two more doctors soon to discuss what's next.  He is expected to start XTANDI, an oral cancer fighter.  There may need to be other medication changes based on which medicines work best together.

Dad has his sights on Charlene's wedding in the Nashville area on May 25th and a cabin (NW Wisconsin) trip in August.

We are grateful that Peggy was able to spend spring break with him last week!

Please keep Connie & him in your prayers.

Love,

Mark
