I wanted to share a story of when Andrea, David and I met with school staff this past week.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how the dean and other staff will help support Andrea at the start of school this year.  At the end of our meeting, David was thanking the staff for meeting with us, and the Resource Director said “We have met before”. As soon as he spoke those words, I was transported back to the scene of the accident and I knew that he was the man with the Fire Dept who held my hands and helped me process everything that was happening to Andrea. He was the person with us as Andrea was put on the helicopter to be life flighted to North Memorial that night.  This was a moment that was full circle for me  - this amazing person that was there for us that night, will now be available at LNHS to support Andrea as she may need it. I don’t know how I would have held it together that night at the scene of the accident without his support and comfort, and now he will be there as Andrea starts this year. I want to say a special thank you to Derrick Gaborski for all his help and compassion that night.

So, as we make our final post with tremendous gratitude, both for Andrea’s remarkable recovery and the overwhelming support we have received throughout this journey. She will drive herself to the first day of her junior year tomorrow having completed all of her rehab and her driving evaluation, which she was able to pass with her now nearly perfect vision. Other than the scar on her eyelid, you would never know we almost lost her just over two months ago. We’re not sure where world class medicine ends and miracles begin but clearly she was on the receiving end of both. She took these gifts and showed us the sheer will and determination we always knew was within her. We are so happy our little girl is herself and home in every sense of the word. Thank you all for helping us through this. David and Carol
