Newest Update

Journal entry by Alyssa Villaluz

Hi everyone! For those of you who don't know, my mom has been at the hospital since 11/11/2023, and in the ICU since 11/18/2023 due to a very severe case of COVID. Unfortunately, as many of you know, she also has dealt with chronic lupus for decades and that has not helped her current situation. At this time, my mom has been on the ventilator for a week, is on a 24/7 type of dialysis called CRRT, and is in a medically induced coma. Her condition is very fragile but I know she is fighting hard.

When speaking to her pulmonologist today, I was told that she has made baby steps, but overall, her condition has stayed pretty stagnant with no significant improvement, sort of like she is just in limbo. Her oxygen needs have increased and her hemoglobin levels are very low compared to the normal person despite several blood transfusions. The doctor also performed a second bronchoscopy today to see if there are any newly developed infections and we should get those results back in the next few days. This is not great news to hear but we are hoping that the past couple of days have just been a minor set back and that she will hopefully make a significant improvement in the next week.

I hope I can make another update sharing some good news soon, but for now,  all we can do is continue to hope and pray that she keeps fighting this and that her body gets strong enough to be able to breathe on her own. We all know she is a tough, stubborn little lady and that she doesn't want to give up! I know many of you would love to visit her and I would love for more people to come and see her, but sadly she is still being limited to 2 visitors a day due to COVID protocol. I wish it was not this way but I will definitely keep you all updated on when she can have more visitors. Hopefully she is feeling better and out of the ICU when that happens! In the meantime, please keep praying for her and sending her all the love you have. We have faith that things will start looking up soon.
