April’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

The Raker family had a great holiday season with lots of family and friends.  Shortly after, I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.  It was successfully removed a few days later. 6 weeks of chemo and radiation treatments begin February 10.

This is our current status and appreciate the love and support from all since and going forward as we begin our journey.  Once treatments begin, we hope to have a better idea of the progress of things.  For now, we are going about the everyday things and enjoying the company of family and friends.

With the surgery there are some slight issues with my visual perception and occasional forgetfulness.  This seems to be still changing some times more clear than others.  Overall I can function very well on my own doling what I need to get done everyday.

Here is some information for those of you that have asked about sending flowers or a memorial donation. You are certainly welcome to choose whichever you prefer.  We would like to encourage you to support a local foundation that has helped us tremendously.
For the last five years we have been attending a cancer support group at the IU Cancer Center. On the first Monday of every month, they provide a complimentary dinner prior to meeting with our support group. We meet in groups according to the type of cancer we are experiencing. It is a wonderful FREE resource available to anyone battling cancer. Here is the information if you would like to make a contribution...
