Ann’s Story

Site created on September 21, 2018

Hi everyone - it's Kari and we wanted to create this page for you to check in on the latest updates on mom. I hope everyone knows how important you are to us and we appreciate all the love and support!!

We've spent a lot of time sending updates and hate thinking we might miss anyone with updates.  Please save this link and we will add updates.  We hope this helps keep our focus on mom.

To back-up, this crazy journey started just two days ago, after a few weeks of back pain.

Mom thought she lifted something wrong and twisted her back.  The pain and aching got worse and Tom took her to the ER Wednesday afternoon. With the pain they did a CT scan of her stomach and found four masses. One on her kidney, liver, spleen and spine. They also got a small portion of her lung which showed evidence of a mass or possibly pneumonia. They suspected lung cancer as the primary cancer but needed more tests to determine next steps.

Thursday a CT scan on her chest and head were done to determine if there were more spots.  The head was clear, but the lungs had quite a bit of bad tissue. Without biopsy this supported the fear of lung cancer. That afternoon a biopsy was taken from her liver. She had her heart checked and ultrasound of her legs were done where they also found a blood clot in her leg. Also, a small piece had broken off and made it to her lungs.

At this point, this could be more serious than the cancer so she has limited walking and started blood thinners to prevent more breaking free - traveling to her heart.

We are likely here until Monday when we hope to get biopsy results which will let the team know what options we have for treatment.  We've been told things look Stage 4 lung cancer... of course we hope to wake up from this nightmare and learn this is all wrong.  We hope you'll keep her and the doctors in your prayers.   We love you all!
