Anna Marie "AMC"’s Story

Site created on April 22, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for our Mom, Anna Marie Chalk. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

This morning our AMC was sent by ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital and was rushed to the OR to fix a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Surgery was approximately 6 hours.  The  doctors said she was a fighter (to be expected) and the next 24 hours are key,   She had a tremendous amount of blood loss as you can imagine and there is a  possibility of complications from kidney failure, liver damage, and neurological concerns.   She is in ICU on a ventilator and they  anticipate she will remain on the ventilator for at least a week and then still have some recovery time in the hospital.

We know our mom has many people who love her and they would want to know that she is literally fighting for her life.  And with that statement I can hear her say "don't be so dramatic."  At this time, we are asking for prayers for her and for our family.  She's a fighter and that's what we need her to do right now. God willing, she will come out of this OK and will be able see any posts or messages of encouragement on this website.

We will use this website to provide updates as we learn them.  Please feel free to share it with anyone you believe would want to know.

Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Phoebe Chalk Wadsworth

We are so very overcome with gratitude by the outpouring of support for our mother.  She was a fantastic person who made an impact on many and will be missed not only by us and our family but by a community.  Because of the health crisis, we will plan a memorial mass later this year when larger gatherings are able to take place safely.

An obituary is be placed in the paper this week and arrangements for everything are being taken care of by our friends at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary.  Since mom has passed we will cease using CaringBridge to post anything and will use the guestbook feature at https://www.carrillostucsonmortuary.com/ Special thanks to anyone who made tribute donations to CaringBridge during the last 6 days as that website helped us share important information with all of you.

We have received requests about how people can remember mom.  We have decided to create the Anna Marie Chalk Endowment at the UA Foundation to continue her legacy.  Our friends there have made a crowdfunding site to make this easier for people who want to honor AMC in lieu of flowers.  The website is: https://crowdfund.arizona.edu/AnnaMarieChalk

We encourage anyone to post photos or messages on the guestbook page of Carrillo's website or send them directly to either of us as we are creating a video for the memorial. Many blessing and lots of virtual hugs. Thank you!
