Anna’s Story

Site created on October 19, 2019

On Oct 17 Anna was hit head-on on her way home from work and critically injured. She was transported to Salem Hospital where the caring staff stabilized her for transported up to Legacy Emanuel in Portland where she was admitted to the NTICU. Her pelvis is broken in 5 places, she has multiple compound fractures to both legs, a shattered heel, broken/dislocated patella, sternum, clavicle, multiple broken ribs, and fractured vertebrae. Her spleen, liver & kidneys all suffered lacerations and her lungs are bruised which require her to be on a ventilator.
Anna has a long road ahead of her with multiple surgeries and rehabilitation, but with the skilled help from the doctors, nurses and surgeons at Legacy we hope to have our Anna back with her little girl and continue planning her wedding with Caleb.

Journal entry by Shaun Phay

Had an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon last Thursday and got a bunch of x-rays done. Everything is healing very well! I got cleared to start weight bearing on my right foot without the black boot! But my PT says I'll have to wean myself off of it since my ankle is going to be very weak for a while. I still have to use the walker to walk and the wheelchair since I can't go more than a few hundred feet at a time but progress is progress! My wounds are slowly healing and are almost completely scabbed over and I'm so thankful for that! Glad to be feeling better! I've been able to get out into the community a few times to go shopping, have meals with friends and family, and run errands. It's exhausting to be out and about but I enjoy being able to socialize and feel somewhat normal. I am still dealing with quite a bit of pain on a daily basis but I have a feeling that it will be sticking around for a while. Some days are better than others but I am learning techniques to help me cope with the chronic pain such as meditation, music therapy and some stretches. Overall I'd say everything is going well. Keep the prayers coming my way, I definitely appreciate the love and support! Thank you all!
