Angela’s Story

Site created on April 16, 2023

This amazing woman who has touched so many lives with her unwavering love for people needs your prayers. She founded Sage School, a Christian, non-profit, private school for children with dyslexia 15 years ago. Even before founding Sage, she was a devoted mother of 5 and worked as a Speech Pathologist in the public school system, always caring for and impacting young students. She is also my amazing wife! Angela has always taken good care of herself making sure to eat healthy and exercise often. That is why the rest of this story comes as such a shock to everyone who knows her.

On Friday April 7, 2023, Angela was admitted to the hospital for a blockage in her bile duct. She had been battling fatigue and other symptoms, but was misdiagnosed by three different doctors for a couple of months leading up to this week. The following Monday, just one week ago, Angela underwent a procedure called an ERCP. This procedure was performed endoscopically to remove the blockage and allow her system to drain. Her bilirubin levels were significantly higher than normal. While performing the procedure, our doctor also scraped some "brushings" from the walls of the common bile duct. This was precautionary as he did not see anything to indicate there were problems beyond the blockage itself. We were expecting to have her gallbladder removed the following day or two. Our surgeons felt it was prudent to wait for the pathology report to make sure there was nothing more to worry about. God put all of these doctors (and their decisions) in our path! Thursday morning we woke up to the shocking news...the pathology report was back... Angela has bile duct cancer. Cholangiocarcinoma. This is a rare cancer that affects .001% of the western world. We were and still are in shock... how? why? all of the questions you can imagine are spinning through our minds. Angela is one of the healthiest people I know... this cannot be happening.  We need support to help turn this to a victor's story. PLEASE PRAY for full healing and minimal suffering as she battles this horrible disease.

Added Angela’s victory picture!!! She ran a 5k yesterday morning…she looked great and finished strong! What a difference a year makes. Thank God for all his blessings!!!

Good morning everyone! It has been just over one year since this saga began. Angela is doing very well!!! She has been focused on eating right, exercising and mitigating the lingering side effects as best she can. She has smiled more and more as we distance ourselves from the struggles presented by this horrific disease. She is cancer free! This was confirmed again during our last scans and bloodwork last week. We are so grateful for your continued support and prayers. We started going back to church in person two weeks ago and it was awesome! Having service online certainly helped us, but being present in person is that much better. As we reenter normal life, we look forward to seeing you all!

Live on!
