Newest Update

Journal entry by Angela Cooper

It’s been a while since my last update so….

I have been going through the every Friday appointments to add saline into the tissue expanders to grow skin.  It’s a weekly process that is no fun but necessary for reconstruction.

I went today for what was most likely my last fill , where I would then be ready for the exchange surgery in 4 weeks.  The exchange surgery is where they remove the tissue expanders and replace them with implants.  After your final fill, they want your skin to settle a bit and soften so they recommend a  4 week wait.

Well, god may have a slightly different plan for me because my doctor put the needle in the first time and something wasn’t right. He removed it, ouch! And tried again with the same result. Ouch again! It wasn’t going into the port like it should have been.  Third time was a charm and he added 30 cc’s and moved on to the other breast.

Now we wait to see if he ruptured the one tissue expander.  If he did ( and how could he have not given the two very long needles in the wrong place before getting the right spot ) I will need the exchange surgery within the next two weeks.  The urgency is required to prevent all the skin growth from being reversed.

Prayers my boob doesn’t start deflating through a small leak. Dang! It sounds like I am talking about a tire but the analogy fits. <Shrug>

On a positive note… I am still a very blessed person!  Cancer is gone and this could have happened earlier in the process which would have required an extra major surgery and huge setback.

Although I am telling my story and it is not all pleasant, I am not complaining at all :).

Love and hugs to you all!
