Journal

Hello everyone! Just wanted to send out a quick update.

Again and always, first we want to express our gratitude to all of those who have prayed for us, shared our story, and/or donated. We have been so blessed and several people have also sent donations through the mail, which brings our actual total to $6,475! Thank you!!!!!

In addition, we have had a few very gracious potential donors step forward and ask to be screened. It will be some time before we know if we have a potential match but are absolutely floored by those who have offered to make a sacrifice to help us. We cannot express fully the extent of our appreciation. Unfortunately, we were also educated by our transplant team that majority of those screened to be a donor are not able/do not end up donating. While that was not what we were hoping to hear, we are praying that we will find a great match! The transplant team encouraged us to continue reaching out to those who may feel called to be screened as a donor. So please, if you are type O and wish to be screened, send me a message and I can provide more information on what is involved in the process.

If we are able to line up a living donor (and we are hopeful we will!), Scott will look at having back to back surgeries, likely sometime this fall or early next spring (provided he continues to be well enough to avoid needing dialysis sooner). In his first surgery, he will have both kidney's removed and will begin dialysis. 4-6 weeks after, he will be able to undergo transplant at the Bronx VA in New York. Doctors estimate at least 3 months will be required for both surgeries and recovery for Scott to get back to work.

Of course this is all complicated by the fact that we will also have a new baby at home- which will prohibit me from being able to be Scott's support person during his operations and post transplant. This has been a big blow...as his wife I am devastated by the idea that I wont be able to be there for him. Our amazing family is already on board to step in to that role, though, and he is going to have an amazing support person no matter what!

Once again, thank you so much to each one of you. Please continue to share our story and we prepare for all that is coming our way!

Blessings! Amanda
