Journal entry by Shea Ponder —
Last week we honored Andy’s passing and many of his friends and family gathered together to celebrate his incredible life and extensive impact. Andy Kwon NYTimes Obituary
In the ensuing days, a number of people have asked for information on how they can help our family and/or do something in Andy’s honor. To that end, we have the following suggestions:
- The Andy Kwon Memorial Fund: The fund is being administered by Andy’s wife, Sarah, in conjunction with his nieces, Shelby and Shea Ponder. The Fund will be allocated to a project that honors Andy’s interests and legacy for a to-be-determined cause related to Duke, soccer, public arts, neurology or a combination therein. More information can be found on the Fundly website linked above.
- Donation to the Kwon family’s 529 fund for the benefit of his childrens’ education. The link can be found at 529 Donations and the Ugift code is V67-V33.
- Letters to AK: A compilation of letters to Andy’s family that is a reflection on your relationship with him - a memory, a story, a thank-you, a testament or other format. The purpose is to ensure that his children have the opportunity to learn more about their father, and see him as he was seen through your eyes. For more information, and to submit a letter by May 1st, contact MShattuck@gmail.com.
We are all struggling to find a productive and noble way to honor the man who was everything to our family. We mourn and grieve his passing but are humbled by the community that has sprung up around us and their intense desire to be supportive and to do good. We are forever grateful to our friends who have stood beside us and have insisted on lifting us up. It is our hope we can continue this cycle of assistance, friendship, and support through our efforts in perpetuating Andy’s legacy.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Andy's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
