Journal

It has been a week and one day since I had surgery. Typing is not overly comfortable yet so I shall make a short entry for now. Last Thursday, February 27 Dave and I drove down to Cleveland. I had lab work that needed to occur prior to surgery as well as a visit with the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. My amazing Aunt was also flying in. We arrive in Cleveland about 2 1/2 hours early, so I got the lab work out of the way for the day, then we proceeded to laze about until it was time to grab my Aunt from the airport.

The three of us returned from the airport and went directly to my surgeon appointment. That took a lot longer than I imagined it would, but all went well. We went over my instructions for the pre-op and any questions I had. Also a quick overview of the surgery itself. Surgery would be Friday, February 28th. Arrival time for me 5:30am, surgery at 7am, and should last at least 4 hours.

Next was the anesthesiologist and there was a huge number of people waiting to be seen in that office! Luckily, they were waiting for reasons other than mine so I got in within a few minutes. I think the appointment lasted 5 minutes. I impressed upon the guy that I had a horrible fear of being put under. Then we were done!

We three walked over to the Rite Aid on campus, because my Aunt's hotel was across the street and I needed a script. So we parted for the afternoon at the Rite Aid. I should mention that it was cold - and very windy! Lake effect was in full effect!

Later that evening we had planned to meet up at our hotel and walk a few blocks over to a Soul Food place for dinner. But the weather had not improved so we opted to eat at the hotel instead. Not horrible. Great conversation! After dinner we parted ways until the morning. Dave and I went back upstairs to hang out. Eventually I started the pre-op process (which because of my nerves I would fully repeat in the morning!). Then we both got hungry. I had until midnight to eat. So we braved the lake effect and cold (with wet hair for me!) to the burger king across the street. Which was sadly closed except drive thru. Our car was parked for the night in the garage several blocks down the street. So we returned to the hotel lobby and decided that we would DoorDash burger king. And it was exquisite and worth it! Once devoured, I went to bed.

Okay, my shoulder has had it for the day. I write more either later or tomorrow. Below are two pictures of the Cleveland Clinic campus under lake effect snow. The big curved building is the building my surgeon, surgery, and room all happened to be in (just in case anyone was curious!).
