Yesterday was my last treatment.  I’m feeling a lot of emotions…grateful, blessed, excited, anxious, and a little nervous!  I’m happy to be done with treatment and to get on with my life, cancer free.

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been 1 year since my diagnosis on July 15, 2022. It has not been an easy year but we are beyond blessed that we had so many family and friends wrap their arms around me and my family. Cancer makes you stop and realize the important things in life and not to take anything for granted.  It has made me slow down and appreciate all that God has blessed me with and how lucky I am to have a community of so many wonderful people to lean on.

My advice for all the women in my life is to do your breast exams, be in tune with your body and get your mammograms done. If something does not feel right, talk to your doctor as it could save your life.

I’m very thankful for Dr. Crane and my care team at KU Cancer Center! The care they gave me was exceptional and every doctor and nurse I worked with treated me with compassion and respect.

We had so many important people step up to help us in our time of need, more than I can mention, but I want to give a special thanks to my wonderful in-laws, Dwight & Carmellia. We are lucky that they live so close to us.  We had many days where we called unexpectedly and they were willing to help which made our lives much easier.  I am also very thankful for my sister Lori who was always willing and able to help anyway she could. Lori came over many Saturday mornings to take care of the kids so I could rest.

I’m grateful for my Mom and Dad.  I am very thankful for all the help and support they have given us during my cancer journey.  My Mom showed me how to fight breast cancer over 15 years ago and because of her I was aware that it could happen to me so I did not ignore the signs.   She is a great role model of strength, love, determination and that being a survivor is possible!  Thank you, Mom and Dad :)

My husband is my best friend and is my rock through everything. We have been through job changes, family business closing, opening and growth of his own business, infertility treatments, miscarriages, having twins, and then breast cancer. He has taken such good care of me and the kids and I couldn’t ask for a better partner! We never thought we would face a cancer diagnosis and especially not 12 years into our marriage (13 years on 7/24), but he is the only one I can imagine going through all the good and hard times with in life!  I hit the jackpot with Isham.  Find a partner that will shave your head (and his in solidarity) because of chemo and tell you every day how beautiful you are!

We are having a party to celebrate the end of treatment on 7/29! Come and celebrate with us.  Invite is attached.
