Amy’s Story

Site created on August 25, 2021

Anyone who knows my mom knows that she lives big, loves hard, and she’s always down for a shot of tequila! In all seriousness, my mom has supported and loved and touched so many people (I’m serious, she knows everyone) and I’m making this page for the people in her corner to have the opportunity to do the same for her.

Over the last several months, Amy has been in and out of doctors appointments and testing investigating what we believed to be a GI issue. However, on Friday, August 20th, we received results from a CT scan that revealed masses on both ovaries.

At this time, Amy has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. The purpose of this page is to streamline messages of support and prayer for her and also to provide regular updates for those who care to follow along.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Leah Ritsema

We wanted to update everyone on the arrangements that have been made for Amy's memorial services.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24th from 6-8pm at Zaagman's Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE., Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546)

Amy's memorial service will be held the following day on Friday, August 25th at Seymour Christian Reformed Church (840 Alger Street SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49507).  Visitation there from 10-11, with the service from 11-12.  There will be a light lunch served immediately following the service in the church basement from 12-1pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Faith Hospice / Trillium Woods or the MIOCA (Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance)  or even a favorite charity of your choosing would be greatly appreciated.  Faith Hospice's staff were absolutely amazing, and our family are so grateful for their compassion and care during Amy's stay with them.

Finally, we have been absolutely overwhelmed by the love and support from so many friends and family, we are all truly blessed!  Though there have been many tears, there have also been many laughs as we keep each other close, sharing countless memories.

Pleases feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions regarding the upcoming events.

Thank you,

Greg
