Journal entry by Amy Burton

My cancer journey started in June 2017 when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I underwent 2 surgeries and 2 rounds of radioactive iodine treatment in just over a year. It has been stable over the past year, but then on January 9, 2020, I was dealt another cancer card. I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leaukemia. This was a nasty blow because it is the same type of leaukemia my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with 1 month before she passed away. I was referred to Vanderbilt for treatment and my 1st appointment was scheduled on January 28th. It turns out, it wasn't just an appointment... I was admitted to the hospital and chemo was started that night. I stayed in the hospital until February 22nd, when I was finally given the ok to go home for awhile. I will have to travel back and forth to Nashville until I'm ready for my planned Stem cell transplant. This site will help keep everyone informed of updates as I have them.
