Journal entry by Amy and Bryon Turner

I have just completed my first week of being a half time employee at the hospital in San Marcos and God really used the time well.  I spent Monday and Tuesday with Amy and my mom, including taking her to see the cardiologist on Tuesday.  The 3 of us agreed do just wait and see how her labs looked and how she was feeling before we considered any more medication changes or invasive testing.  I worked Wednesday at the pain clinic and had time in the afternoon with Amy to finish installing our porch bed swing.  We had a nice long phone conversation with my sister in Kerrville with the primary topic being my mom’s health, spiritual and mental state, and plans for her future.  She had been becoming more frail, more oxygen dependent and less active recently.  My sister had just talked to her on the phone and all of us agreed that mom was expressing a deeper emotional state than usual.  On Thursday, I was able to help mom be on her bible study via zoom in the morning and then to be with her around lunch just before she started an early afternoon nap in her recliner.  Amy and I went back to moms place at 2 pm to take her into town for a blood draw and when we entered her home, we found her unresponsive, not breathing and without a pulse.  She was lying in her recliner and had apparently suffered a cardiac arrest there shortly before our arrival.  Mom had requested no CPR so we notified the authorities and then waited for them to arrive.  We started notifying family, all the while counting our blessings for the wonderfully way Mom had transitioned out of this life and into God’s arms.  The scene was peaceful, without trauma and the process smooth.  My mom was 80 and lived a wonderful life.  She leaves an impressive legacy with 7 grand children and 10 great-grandchildren.  She loved the Lord and we are full of joy knowing she is with Jesus and no longer dealing with the many ailments she faced here on earth.
We are currently making arrangements for services here and in Roswell.
In the meantime, I am back to work at the hospital tomorrow and feeling well rested.  I was able to attend a car event yesterday with one of my close friends and Amy spent yesterday at a women’s retreat at the church.  Lucas was home last week for spring break and is back at school finishing his 3rd year of nursing school. Taz and Dorcas are doing well in their jobs and enjoying their new apartment.  I had to skip my maintenance chemo treatments in February and March due to pneumonia and then a small wound infection that is now almost healed.  My last labs had some great news in that my liver enzymes were normal for the first time in over a year and a half.  We think this is a direct result of removing the insult of chemo therapy and that we were able to wean me off the anti-fungal medicine I have been on since transplant.  We expect to resume the 3 day per month cycles in April. We will also travel to Roswell for a memorial service for Mom, resume drag racing in Oklahoma and make a trip to Florida for a neonatal therapist conference. April will be a busy time but we are excited for it and know that these plans are a direct result of my increased time off from the hospital.  We are marveling at God’s provision this week in particular. Mom was able to have phone conversations with her Brother in Farmington, her sister in law from Roswell and with my sister.  The time off allowed me to be physically present with her in her last days and I will treasure those memories forever.  Today we celebrated Palm Sunday and as we approach Easter, we have plenty to celebrate as we know Mom is in a better place and there is no suffering for her.
