Journal

Yesterday marked 8 weeks since we have been in the NICU. Ames is now 38 weeks gestation and weighs 6lbs 9oz.

Ames failed his 3rd car seat challenge Sunday morning. This again stirred up a ball of emotions. The feelings of worry, frustration, and sadness overcame me once again. Later that afternoon I met with the doctor and they decided to do a sleep study on Ames. This consisted of 8 hours on oxygen and 8 hours off of oxygen.

Thankfully Justin was able to come down and be with us Sunday night. Receiving tough news time after time when you are alone is mentally and physically exhausting. Having him here with me is just what I needed so we could navigate our next plan of action for our little man together.

We finally received our sleep study results Tuesday afternoon. They found that he does a lot of periodic breathing which causes his oxygen levels to drop. The doctors feel it is best that he goes home on oxygen for the time being. We will have a follow-up sleep study in a month to see if he needs to continue on the oxygen or not. Surprisingly, I am feeling quite a bit of comfort having him come home on oxygen as I have been able to witness him doing much better on it. Having Ames on oxygen will take away a lot of the worry that I would have if he was not on it.

He took his 4th car seat test today while being on oxygen. This one was a two-hour test instead of 90 minutes and he passed with flying colors.

With all of that being said, after 58 days in the NICU we are officially coming home tomorrow morning (Wednesday)! We are so excited the day is finally here. A huge thank you to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and encouragement along the way. It means the world to us!
