Dear friends of the Nottinghams,
As you may know our sweet boy is with his Savior. Ames’ lung disease progressed so quickly and there was nothing the pulmonology team could do for him. They began palliative care last Wednesday and he passed away Friday. Thankfully many family members were able to be with him at the hospital in his last days.

Below is an email that was sent out to our church.

Dear Redeemer family:

I am writing with deep sadness to let you know that Ames Nottingham, one-year old son of Jeff and Autumn Nottingham, went to be with the Lord on Friday evening. Jeff and Autumn both were with him, and his siblings were able to see him earlier that afternoon.

We hurt and grieve for the Nottinghams. Death is a monstrous, awful enemy. We were not made for it, even though it is the fate of us all in a fallen world. God is good and sovereign, and we trust him, yet it disorients us when he says no, like this, to what we have prayed.

While we weep, we wait for the hope of the resurrection to reassure us. We know Ames is with the Lord, that death does not have the last word, but we hurt and miss him terribly.

As your pastor, let me say thank you for how you have loved the Nottingham family over this past year. Tears come to my eyes for how you have cared for them. I know they have felt the love of God through you. And I know that we will have opportunity to continue to be Christ’s physical presence to them in the days to come.

We invite you to Ames’s funeral Wednesday, April 14, 12pm, in our sanctuary. For this occasion, we will not require RSVPs. We will wear masks, and we will accommodate people up to our seating capacity. If you would feel more comfortable attending virtually, we will livestream it privately at this link (we will not link to it from our website).

In lieu of flowers, the Nottingham family asks that you donate to Riley Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Program fund(select it from the pull-down menu for what you would like your donation to support).

Let me close with a prayer—Father, you know our hurt. You yourself know the pain of the death of a child. Please be close to Jeff, Autumn, Asher, Winter, Violet, Eden, and Jude—indeed, to all the brokenhearted. Store up our tears in your bottle. May we have hope in Jesus Christ, who has overcome death, while we also grieve, because our enemy has not yet been vanquished. Amen.
