Ambrose’s Story

Site created on August 26, 2023

On Wednesday Morning, 8/23/23, Ambrose was born after inhaling meconium. Noah and Samantha quickly learned that their new baby was critically ill and in extreme danger. The medical complications from Ambrose's lungs being covered in meconium are complex and vast, including internal bleeding, extreme organ stress, and infection. Once Ambrose maxed out on the life support options in Charlotte, the doctor suggested moving Ambrose to Wake Forest, where there was another life-support machine. It was an exceptionally risky move but the only one that could potentially save his life.

During transport, Ambrose needed to be switched to a traditional ventilator while in transit. In a miraculous turn of events, Ambrose responded better to the conventional ventilator, and his vitals started taking a turn for the better. Once at Wake Forest, his vitals continued to improve so that the risky move of putting him on a bypass machine was no longer recommended.

Ambrose continues to make small improvements as the team at Wake Forest works to wean him off of the ventilator slowly. Once Ambrose is no longer in critical condition, doctors will assess the damage sustained to his brain and kidneys from the two days of low blood pressure and low oxygen (before the ventilator change.) Ambrose is experiencing seizures in his brain, and the team is working to address this.

What we are grateful for:
-The change in ventilators which caused his vitals to reach a survivable level
- Colostrum from Samantha they are swabbing in Ambrose's mouth
- Ambrose tolerating (so far) the slow weaning from the life support machines
- Father Codd, who came to baptize and confirm Ambrose
- All the prayer warriors in our community
- The incredible teams at Hemby and Wake Forest
- The Ronald McDonald House

What we are praying for:
- That Ambrose can completely get off of life-support and begin to breathe on his own
- That damage sustained to his vital organs is reversible
- That his brain has been protected
- That he continues to make small moves in the right direction
- That he sustains no more seizers
- For the doctors and nurses caring for Ambrose

What we need:
- Prayers. Please keep them coming.
- Samantha can order food at the hospital for breastfeeding, and the Ronald McDonald House provides dinner and a room for Sam and Noah to sleep in. Some coffee or food gift cards for Noah would help defray a little of the cost for them while they are in Winston-Salem (contact Jenny). As other needs arise, we will let the community know. God-willing, we will bring Ambrose home and get a good old-fashioned meal train going.

We are asking especially for the intercession from our baby saint friends Nora, Joseph, Beckett, and Mary Therese. We know they hold a special place in our Father's heart and trust their intersession will be powerful and efficacious.

Ambrose is coming HOME today! We cannot thank everyone enough for your countless prayers for this miracle and Father Codd for the sacraments that helped Ambrose pull through! We credit our baby saint friends for this amazing miracle. THANK YOU!

Please continue to pray for Ambrose's little brain and that he can form new neuropathways to compensate for the damage sustained.
