Amber’s Story

Site created on January 28, 2022

“AMBER is a FIGHTER - all the time.” - Greg was explaining the WARRIOR, the BOLD and STRONG woman that Amber is all of the time.

HISTORY- How to explain Amber’s story is quite limited given the space here, but here are the basics most want or need to know.  Amber had a long history of a blood clotting disorder (APS) that caused a stroke in 2006, which she fiercely overcame despite the doctors’ poor prognosis.  This led to a on and off battle with seizures over the years.  We are so blessed to have many people around us who love us, and everyone asks “how is she doing?“ We’ve been getting that question for 15 years.  When people ask, they are usually wondering about the big things, but Amber struggle has always been a daily struggle… The little things. The blood disorder, the seizure disorder, and the giant bag of medicine she has to take every day would lead to fatigue every day.  If she wanted to clean the house, that would be the only thing she had energy for that day. If she wanted to attend the boys’ games, she would have to conserve and make sure she could get there. And since evenings were tough, dinner plans were often out of the question.  But, because she is a fighter, she always rises up when she needs to.  AND SHE WILL AGAIN!

NOW - Amber had seizures very early Sunday morning, January 23.  After spending hours at the hospital, she came home but didn’t feel right, and then in the middle of the night around 1 AM Monday, January 24, she had another seizure that put her in cardiac arrest. The EMTs and police on the scene were able to revive her and get her to Bryn Mawr Hospital, but not before significant damage has been done by lack of oxygen to her brain.

For most people that have one incident, that is the entire focus, but for Amber, her blood is a concern, her kidney is a concern, her heart is a concern, and her brain. At this point, her brain is the most important thing and it is time to heal. This will take time, likely months, but she will WIN! Amber knows this truth.

We will continue to update this hub of resources as needed, and per medical updates on journal entries as we learn of new information.
