Amanda’s Story

Site created on September 25, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Most of you know that my family and I suffer from Chiari Malformation. My mom and sister have both had some fusions as well as brain decompression. I’m fortunate enough not to need to brain decompression, however I do need my C1 and C2 fused. When I turn my head those two are slipping and cutting off blood flow to the major artery. If not corrected I could start suffering from strokes and cause permanent damage. It’s already causing severe pain and fainting spells. We are catching it pretty early so that’s some good news. We love our    Doctor and trust him with everything we have. It’s a complicated surgery that will take up to 4 hours. If you all could please keep us in your prayers and send some awesome thoughts and words that would be greatly appreciated! Surgery will be on October 13th. We do not have a time yet but we will keep you all updated!

Journal entry by Amanda Marchio

Had another physical therapy apt today! It went well but I’m pretty tired and getting sore. He had me doing all kinds of stuff today though. I was glad to get a workout in and can’t wait to go all out some day soon. Resting on the couch until I go to work tonight.
