Journal entry by Amanda Dolan

Today was my first check up in 6 weeks (crazy!). Time seems to be moving faster than ever. My symptoms have been mild and the medication seems to be doing what we hoped it would do! To say I’m grateful would be an understatement ❤️.
When we first realized I was sick my platelet count was 28. The “normal” range is between 150-450 k/ul… today my platelets came in at 122! Hemoglobin is up drastically as well just one point under the minimum range.
As these levels go up I’m starting to see how much I was struggling but didn’t realize, I was so so tired every minute of the day. It’s amazing to physically feel the difference.
We will go about one full year on this medication, if everything is within healthy range we will stop the med and see what happens. The hope is once my bone marrow is steadily developing proper red blood cells again, my body will maintain it as long as possible.
Remission is the goal though I am remaining realistic in understanding and setting my expectations that this process is not a complete cure, but we can certainly hope that miraculously happens 🤞🏻❤️

I’m truly humbled by the process and the rollercoaster of emotions that have come with it. As we walked out of the cancer center today we felt joyful and that is certainly not a feeling we expected when we were there 4-5 days a week just a few short months ago.

A big thank you to those that still reach out and check in after some time has now passed, it truly means so much just to get a brief well wish. Having cancer can feel oddly lonely at times so I appreciate the love more than I could explain.

I’m just so incredibly thankful to be home for Christmas with my little family and I hope everyone has the best holiday ever.

Also, remember to get your physicals!!! 😘
I have no idea where I’d be right now if we hadn’t caught this as early as we did…. There’s nothing quite like knowing you could die young to make you appreciate living so much more.

✌🏼❤️🎄
