Journal entry by Brandon Huffman

On February 27, 2024, Alyse Huffman Hughes, took her final earthly breath and went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

A loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and in-law, “LeeSee” fought cancer with courage and strength.

Alyse was a creative, loving, compassionate woman, who, when her own niece, Avery, battled cancer in 2015, began making wood-crafted signs on behalf of her niece in her cancer fight.

That led to a full-fledged small business that she owned and operated, “HughesOfColor,” which created wood signs, acrylics, ornaments, engraving, scoring, custom-made signs, jewelry, lanyards, key chains, hair clips, accessories and much more for families, businesses and the military.

She also did custom baking and baked goods for area families.

Alyse was born on July 12, 1983, the third child and first daughter to John and Olivia Huffman, in Ventura, California.  She graduated from Buena High School in Ventura in 2001 and attended Cal State University Channel Islands, majoring in psychology.

She met the love of her life, David Hughes, in 2006, and they were married on December 11, 2010.

Alyse was the last of her four siblings to have children, so she dove head first into her role as an aunt to her seven nephews and six nieces, known as “Auntie LeeSee” and “Auntie SeeSee”.

But Alyse’s most cherished title was that of “Mommy,” and she gave birth to her and David’s daughter, Harper Lynne Hughes, on April 9th, 2018.

Born and raised in Ventura, California, Alyse, David and Harper moved to Harker Heights, Texas, in the summer of 2021.

Alyse loved to shop, color, shop, read, shop, decorate, shop, design, shop and furnish her home.

She and her family attended Crossroads Church in Belton, Texas and previously attended Ventura Missionary Church in her hometown.

Alyse is survived by her husband of 13 years, David Hughes of Harker Heights, Texas, her five-year old daughter, Harper Lynne, her mother, Olivia Huffman of Ventura, Calif. and father, John Huffman of Camarillo, Calif., her brother, Brandon Huffman (sister-in-law, Amanda, nieces Alexandra and Addison and nephew Cade, of Auburn, Wash.), brother Jeremy (sister-in-law Jackie, nephews Devin, J.J., Bradley, Bryson and Caleb and niece Madison Huffman of Moorpark, Calif.), and sister Natalie (brother-in-law Jimmy, nephew Ethan and nieces Payton and Avalon), numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends and her mother-in-law and father-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her niece, Avery Huffman, who courageously fought brain cancer before passing away in February of 2016.

A Celebration of Life for Alyse will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 10 a.m. at Ventura Missionary Church in Ventura, California.
