Allison ’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Here are some highlights of how this story began.

Returning from a trip to Nashville on November 5th, Allison and I were both feeling a little run down with symptoms of a sinus related illness. During the following week, Allison didn’t show signs of improvement, despite going in for a sinus cocktail shot. She slept more than usual. On Sunday, November 13, she complained of a bad headache.

Since we were preparing to head to Dallas the following week for my brother Mark’s  funeral, I decided we needed her to be seen by a doctor. We headed down the road to Methodist Olive Branch hospital.

It was there that we got the unexpected news that Allison has a mass in her brain. She was immediately transferred to Methodist Hospital in Memphis. To say that we were reeling in the moment would be an understatement; however God gave us such a great sense of peace and calm that only He could provide, especially when we remembered none of this was a surprise to Him.  And so the journey began.

At this point we know the mass has been relegated to the right frontal lobe of the brain and has not spread anywhere else.  Praise God for that victory! There is swelling around the brain so she is on steroids to reduce this and allow for further assessment by the neurosurgeon (Dr Sorensen of Semmes-Murphey). The mass is about golf ball-sized but everyone seems optimistic about the prognosis. Her treatment plan will be put together accordingly.  A few more days in the hospital seems likely but with hope we could go home for a few days and do the biopsy/ surgery the Monday after Thanksgiving.

We have already been surrounded by an overflow of love and support of so many family, friends, and medical staff, that God has divinely placed in our path.  We sincerely appreciate your continued prayers as we walk this road.

Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Greg Ricketts

Today was the day everyone had been taking about and waiting on for so long— the solar eclipse.  And it did not disappoint. As I gazed upward, with my protective glasses in place, and saw the sun try to peek out from behind the clouds, I couldn’t help but think of God and his amazing handiwork.  How did He create such an intricate masterpiece with so many moving parts that even the brightest minds can’t fully explain?  Sadly, the clouds did not allow me to get a very good picture but right before everything was in position I snapped a shot that looked very similar to a painting of an angel that Allison did several years ago for Ashleigh. How fitting!  Then as quick as it came, within two minutes the bright radiant light became eerily dark, reminiscent again of the day Jesus paid it all for us on Calvary.  But just as the stone was rolled away on the Sunday that followed, the sun was back out again and in full force.  Breathtaking!   And while none of the media reports I’ve seen didn’t acknowledge where all of this truly came from, we know.  It was just God being God! And nothing can ever eclipse His power, His love, or His being.  Someday soon He’ll be coming again in the clouds.  Will you be ready for that Sonday?  No glasses needed.  Just childlike belief.  Allison couldn’t have painted it any better.

”“But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭29‬-‭31‬ ‭
