Alison’s Story

Site created on April 5, 2019

Welcome to Alison's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Our family has had a tough few days and I know news is spreading, so I wanted to make sure the right facts are being told about what our family is dealing with.  Sunday, Skyler noticed my eyes were yellow and Sam and Scotty agreed.  I felt fine until that evening so my Doctor and I decided on doing labs Monday morning.  After a sonogram, it was decided I needed to go to an ER to be admitted as a patient for further testing.  After cat scans, endoscopy procedure and another to place a metal stent in my blocked duct, the test came back yesterday afternoon that I have a stone in both my kidneys and pancreatic cancer.  I wanted to wait for more defined news so that we had time for our kids to know and process it all.

The greatest gift you can give our family are prayers!  I’m a huge believer in God’s healing powers!  We do trust that God is with us on this journey and feel the power of the prayers being said on our behalf.

Knowing I was not seeing my sweet classes and my fellow coworkers for the rest of the school year, breaks my heart, but I’m planning to hang their beautiful sign so I can see it always.  Due to the unknown and the time I need to give myself and my family, we will not be holding camps this summer at my house.  I want to say a special thank you to my prayer warriors I’ve had already, the meals for family, the flowers, the visits, and my sweet prayer blanket from Ascension.  This weekend, I will be at a beautiful Welcome Retreat with an awesome group of ladies.  I can’t think of a better way to spend my last free weekend before my journey begins to kick this cancers behind! ❤️🙏🏻❤️

Due to our medical appointment schedule and a need for rest, we'd ask that you text us prior to visiting  to ensure that we are available.

-If you'd like to help, please see the "Ways to Help" tab for a prayer support signup.   This is an opportunity to unite in prayer each hour for  the Smeltzer family prayer intentions.

-If you'd like to send a card, you can do so at the following address- 10312 W. 119th Terrace, Overland Park, KS   66213.
-Please NOTE:   The donations that are made through this website go to supporting the Caringbridge website and not to the Smeltzer family.

Journal entry by Scott Smeltzer

Due to popular demand, we are posting the video of Alison Smeltzer's "Celebration of Life" that was played at the end of her Funeral Mass on Monday. This personal video is chalked full of family pics and other video snippets that include Alison's vivacious laugh. The kids enjoyed making it, and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do: https://youtu.be/72U61TpfZM8. Have a blessed day!
