Alison’s Story

Site created on December 22, 2020

On October 13, 2020 Alison Rule (Ingle) was delivered some news that shocked her and her family. She received a diagnosis of Leukemia after going to the emergency room at Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo for unusual symptoms, including a persistent cough. She texted, “I’m terrified. But I’m going to fight so hard for my girls. I’ll give it everything I’ve got. But it’s going to be a long, hard, scary road.”

On October 14th, Alison started a big dose of chemotherapy and was transferred by ambulance to UCSF for a bone marrow biopsy and further labs and imaging. Ted and Alison’s family are going to great lengths to ensure she is under the best care possible.

Alison is at UCSF because it is one of the best hospitals in the world and Alison’s brother (Patrick), sister-in-law (Allison), Mom (Belinda) and family members live in the area. Alison will need to be in the hospital for 6 months or longer. Have no fear, Anna and Avery will be well taken care of and will resume online school from Concord, CA, where they have the support of family and cousins. This will enable Alison to be given the best medical attention necessary.

If you would like to send Alison a card, please contact Nicole (Alison’s cousin) through this platform. Due to Covid, the restrictions on having flowers, food, etc. delivered to the hospital are very strict. The best way we can support Alison, Ted, Anna and Avery is to help alleviate the financial burden a long-term health crisis of this magnitude can bring.

Alison is amazingly strong (we don’t call her “Big Al” for nothing) and is ready to fight this cancer head on. What she needs is the support of her family. What she needs is the support of her school community. What she needs is the support of those friends who know Alison would have their back in this situation. WE ARE THOSE PEOPLE, and WE are going to help her and her family get through this!

We will keep this page updated as often as possible, so share with anyone and everyone you know who wants to know what is happening. Thank you!
