Journal entry by Alison Detjens —
Clark here - Alison passed away on Saturday February 25, 2023 at 8pm with her sister Colleen at her side in the comfort of her own home. Timmy, Russell and I fell asleep together upstairs a short time earlier.
Alison started at-home hospice care on January 18th. A short time later, we all took a trip to Leavenworth, WA to visit and say goodbye to friends. Alison decided to stay in Leavenworth under the unconditional compassionate care at the home of Sonya and Jason. She remained there for almost three weeks until I (Clark) brought her home to Moscow when the entire household came down with COVID.
In the last few days of her life, she was home, comfortable, and together with her immediate and extended family. Her hospice care team came everyday, including weekends, because her particular nurse was "possessive of her," a relatively common occurrence in the field of hospice medicine.
Timmy and Russell are doing ok and are understanding the situation as their development allows.
We are eternally thankful for the outpouring of support from friends and family at this time.
I will post a link to her obituary here when it publishes. Thank you again for reading and your support during Alison's 19-month long fight with cancer. We love you all.
