Newest Update

Journal entry by Alice-Cole Reynolds

First of all, I cannot believe it's December and 2023 is almost over! Where has this year gone? We have had a super busy fall with all the sports. I thought things were slowing down, but I'm quickly learning that when you start any kind of travel sport it takes over. :) So, between Fielding's basketball schedules and now Eliza's field hockey and basketball schedules we are running all over, BUT I love it. Gigi is the best little cheerleader and can't wait to start an activity of her own one day.

Lots to update about September's apt and today's apt, but I'll keep it short and sweet (try to at least). The good news is that my scans are stable! At this time, there doesn't appear to be any growth in my tumors and that is really awesome news. In September my oncologist discussed starting further treatment - a proactive treatment, which would be a chemo pill. The reason for starting this proactively would be to prolong the tumor growth and possibly shrink the tumors. I wasn't expecting this, so I have used the last three months to digest this information. In October I went to VCU for a second opinion, which was great. Dr. Daras at VCU was incredible and spent so much time with me further explaining why this proactive approach is in fact the best next step. It was what I needed to hear. My oncologist at UVA is also incredible and I completely trust him, but I needed to hear another opinion before taking this next step. Today we had my next scan, also stable, and decided to move forward with next steps for starting the treatment. I had to have an EKG and some blood work done today and for the first month of being on the chemo I will have to have blood work and and EKG done weekly, then I will hopefully be moved to monthly on that stuff. The side effects shouldn't be terrible, but each case is different, so I'm hoping for the best. They say I could be really exhausted at the end of the day....welllllll let's see - I teach JK and have 3 kids of my own so tell me what you mean by really exhausted, because I'm there already. LOL. :) I'm hopeful that the side effects will be minimal and that it won't mess up this crazy routine we have over here at the Reynolds house, but if I have to call on my people for help, I will. Our biggest prayer is that the medicine does with it's supposed to do and my scans continue to be stable!

As always, we are forever grateful for the love and support of everyone through this journey. Merry Christmas and Happy Happy New Year!
