Journal entry by Al Flory —
Hi everyone.
I just wanted to give you an update on my cancer. First, the bad news - we’ve discovered a metastasis on my liver. Unfortunately, liver metastases are usually not operable, and we will probably be progressing with chemotherapy for the indefinite future (a.k.a. palliative care). Pancreatic cancer is a nasty disease, so we weren’t completely shocked with this development. Second, the good news - I’m feeling really good even though we’re just finishing another round of chemo. I’ve been exercising regularly, and have even found a couple new hiking trails over the past few weeks! I’m also eating well and maintaining my weight!
I have little interest in participating in early clinical trials (e.g. phase 2), and am more concerned about quality-of-life than longevity. The oncologist has assured us that the things we'll do to maintain quality-of-life will also promote longevity. Monica and I are hoping to get everything we can out of my remaining life. Ideally, that will involve some travel - at least to the Twin Cities, and to visit siblings and friends.
We are very grateful for the support we’ve received from all of you. I probably won’t post updates frequently, but will let you know if any significant changes occur. In the mean time know that I’m happy, healthy and really appreciating life!
Hugs to all of you!
Al
