Alex’s Story

Site created on August 15, 2018

We wanted to provide an update on Alex as we know the word is getting out.  Alex’s Ewings Sarcoma cancer has returned.  It is sure relentless!  This time it wanted to visit the top of the left shoulder in the bone.  It was found mid-October when he went for his 3 month scans and he had a PET scan on Oct 23rd and we headed to Mayo November 2nd for a biopsy to confirm it was Ewings.  Alex got his port installed Nov 22nd so he is ready to go.

The month of November we got a second opinion around the treatment plan from Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland OH and Alex decided to move forward with their recommendation which will consist of receiving chemos:  Doxil and Vincristine once every 28 days.  He will get Zometa as well, which I believe will help protect the brittleness of the bone.  Around month 3 they are looking to perform 5 treatments of SBRT radiation followed with more chemo treatments.  Scans will be throughout to monitor the effectiveness of the chemo and see if any adjustments are needed.

Alex chose this treatment plan as it would be less toxic with getting the similar results and gives him the chance to stay in college next semester at Benedictine.  We won’t know how his body will react until we get started, but we know from the past that his body let’s us know it doesn’t appreciate the abuse.  We are truly greatful that our doctors are partnering with the Cleveland Clinic on the recommendation and to administer the treatment in Des Moines.

Alex is finishing his semester now and will finish classes on December 13th, New scans and doctor visits on Dec 14th and start treatment on Dec 15th.

Connor is doing well in Rome and we stay in touch with him weekly.  Having video calls through WhatsApp is awesome and we stay connected.  You know the boys, so they are firing off positive quotes and scriptures to help get through this and Connor sent back home 1 of the 2 identical crosses that he received as a gift from the Lyons crew before he left for Rome so Alex has it to pray with.

The way you can help is to send forth prayers for strength, courage, peace and understand and for good health through our treatments.  The treatments are looking to at least go through May 2024 as of now.

I will update Caringbride only going forward and here is the link to the site if you would like to follow.  You are always welcome to share scripture too and provide some good jokes and notes as Alex will read them too and will bring a smile to all of us.   Many thanks and Blessings to all.  Lynch Crew

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jana Lynch

I have been slacking on the updates so thought I would take a minute to get back on track.  After Alex finished his radiation treatments on the shoulder, he did have treatment #4 on Friday, March 8th and everything went fine.  He will be having treatment #5 tomorrow and we will get to have him home for the weekend which we will enjoy spending time with him and catching some basketball.

Right now we are just getting our treatments in to prepare for scans late May.   May will be a busy month with chemo, scans and finishing the college semester and moving home.  We will take it a little at a time.

We hope everyone had a Blessed Easter and we continue to give thanks for all the support and prayers.

Blessings, Lynch Crew
